Session Seven

Will Calhoun, Grammy Award-winning drummer, scholar, photographer and all-around innovative thinker, is celebrated for his work with the band Living Colour. He will explore rhythm as a site of political, spiritual and social transformation. His presentation will reflect on sound as a carrier of ancestral intelligence. Zimbabwean graphic designer and scholar Saki Mafundikwa, a leading authority on African writing systems and design, responds by examining visual language, typography, and signification as parallel systems of meaning. Together, they will trace rhythmic and graphic forms as technologies of memory.
