Session Eight

Art historian and photographer Dr. Petra Richterová examines rumba as a form of embodied writing, drawing on African performance, spirituality and healing traditions. She frames dance as a visual art form, interpreted through her original photographs. Dr. Richterová’s work bridges visual art, movement and cultural memory. Krump dancer and founder of the New York-based Roundz of Flame: Dance League of the Cultures platform Rocka Jamez responds through lived knowledge of dance by speaking on the importance of unifying dancers across international communities. This includes the dance cultures of Krump, Dancehall, Bruk Up, Breaking, Flexn,’ Waacking, House, Voguing, among others. Their dialogue foregrounds movement as an intellectual and cultural force.
