Africanist art historian, painter and curator Dr. George Nelson Preston has been instrumental in shaping the study and exhibition of classical African art. Photographer and painter Adger Cowans, a founding member of the Kamoinge Workshop photographic collective, reflects on a lifetime of image making rooted in abstraction, jazz sensibility, sensuality and self-reflection.
