Africanist art historian, painter and curator Dr. George Nelson Preston has been instrumental in shaping the study and exhibition of classical African art. His scholarship emphasizes the spiritual, historical and metaphysical dimensions of African creativity. His presentation explores meaning beyond surface interpretation. Photographer and painter Adger Cowans, a founding member of the Kamoinge Workshop photographic collective, reflects on a lifetime of image making rooted in abstraction, jazz sensibility, sensuality and self-reflection. Together, they will consider the inner life of the artist.
